Upon walking into Michael’s craft store and finding these grapevine heart forms, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.
Succulents can grow in various types of environments, such as a moss filled wreath.
For this project you will need a wreath form. You can use either a wreath made out of sticks/grapevine (pictured above) or a wire wreath form. In addition, you will need spray glue, moss (green and/or brown), tacky glue or hot glue, rubber gardening gloves (to prevent glue mess), and living succulent cuttings.
First, use the spray glue, spraying the bottom half of wreath. To make the wreath all around of succulents, spray the whole wreath.
Apply moss to the area where spray glue has been applied. Using the rubber gloves to prevent a sticky mess, press the moss into the wreath form. Reapply the spray glue over the moss and continue to press moss into the form.
Why you should use gloves…. The rubber gloves will not stick as much to the moss and wreath as cotton ones would.
Using either hot or tacky glue, apply a couple of drops of glue to the succulent cuttings and ‘plant’ it into the moss. Make sure the tip of the cutting is in the moss, as this is where the succulents will start to root.
Secure the succulents by adding drops of glue near the base of the succulent and pressing gently into the moss.
For better results, arrange the succulents on top of the wreath before gluing. I personally prefer patterns.
Let the wreath dry overnight before hanging up. Before hanging, ensure that all of the succulents are attached to avoid falling cactus!
To care for your wreath, take a spray bottle and spray the moss every couple of days. If you plan to keep it inside, let the wreath be in the sun for at least one day for proper growing. It is very important not to over water, so gentle spraying is best.
